I know he’s safe— but I’m still working on Oswald. But the Karl you know and love is still safe right where you left him.

[A massive amount of the tension that's been lurking in the back of his mind vanishes. Karl's safe at home... which is both good and bad. Good in that he's not outside and knows how to get into the food -even if it's supposed to be off limits- and bad as in he probably has a limited amount of time before that runs out.]

He... he should be able to survive a while off the food in my house. Karl's smart enough to get into the food I have around the house as it's not canned.

[He usually feeds Karl cat food, but his groceries have gained a habit of going missing ever since he got the Raccoon. It's not hard to imagine who's been getting into them.]

I'm.... not sure how long that would last though. I... um...

...I... It's good to know he's safe for now, but when the food runs out... he's... h-he's.... he's going to starve. Raccoons... they can only survive without food for a week.

[And Karl stil so young in his memories. That's the statistic for adult raccoons. A young one... would probably die before the week was up.]

You... are quite literally his only hope. I have no other connections. No one's going to notice or care that I've disappeared. No one's going to check my house and find Karl.

[It's really sad to say that out loud and have it be completely true according to his current memories. And you know what? He doubts that would change even six years from now. He wouldn't have bothered making connections during that time. No. Those became pointless after Ranpo defeated him. People leave you once you are no longer the best and it's easier to cut the connections yourself rather than watch them do it. Even now he believes that. He's been playing nice with everyone else.... but truly?

He only trusts them as much as is required to function in society.

He's socializing because if he doesn't... then he becomes an outsider and unable to be trusted. A detective needs others to trust them to function at fully efficiency. So he's trying to ease himself back into socializing, but as soon as he gets out of here?

He's cutting all ties from here and returning to plotting his revenge on Ranpo.]

...I understand. I'll get more information. But please try not to stress yourself too much. If he can't stay here then... perhaps we can arrange some place that he can.
